Garden - to Doon Hill
Another view of the gardens, this time looking South towards Doon Hill in the background. The Yew tree on the very top is said to entrap and embody the soul of Robert Kirk, the Minister of nearby Kirkton Church who mysteriously disappeared in 1492 after publishing his book 'The Commonwealth of Elves Faunes and Faeries'. Just one of the well-known items of folklore and legend which make Aberfoyle the enchanted village and Strathard the most spiritually uplifting place in Scotland.

Garden photo with burn-cut
View across our garden looking West into Rob Roy Country; see the stream which has cut into the ground - down to the underlying rock. After the snow melts in the hills, the streams, or burns as we call them here, cascade water down the garden to our pond and from there into the River Forth beside Aberfoyle bridge. The start of the River Forth is just a short walk into Strathard, our valley - with Aberfoyle at it's gateway; the actual spot is where two mountain streams the Avon Dhu (Black water) and Duchray water meet. The whole area is a walking, cycling and outdoor pursuits paradise.

Our Climate
Aberfoyle has a micro climate due to the surrounding mountain ranges which gives us more sunshine than elsewhere. Here at Easter 2003 you can see the heat haze through the trees! Many residents of the South of Great Britain regard Scotland as "The Frozen North", factually just 2 degrees Celsius cooler than the South of England and we don't have water shortages!... other parts of the UK swelter in Summer but our West of Scotland maritime climate keeps us very comfortable... in Winter, just try the warmth of our home!! The important thing is to expect to enjoy lots of weather, sometimes 4 seasons in an hour if you are lucky - so bring several thin layers of easy-care comfortable clothing and a waterproof jacket. If you are walking the hills, please use proper footwear etc... for more free advice, do please contact us; we are here to help!

"Tourists in the Central Scotland area or visiting the Lomond & The Trossachs National Park will be delighted to have been guests at our home"
"Our Ground Floor Suite is specially equipped for access challenged people - perfect following a hospital visit when you simply can't face the prospect of stairs. Though there are plenty of good places to eat during the main season, we are perfectly willing to cook for mobility-challenged guests who would prefer not to venture from the house to eat."
